Tourism Holdings Limited (thl), a prominent player in the recreational vehicle (RV) industry, has announced the closure of its Brisbane manufacturing facility, effective December 19, 2025.
This decision results in the loss of approximately 110 Australian jobs and signifies a strategic shift, with all production being relocated to New Zealand.

The Brisbane factory has been a significant part of Australia's RV manufacturing landscape, producing thousands of motorhomes and caravans under well-known brands such as Talvor, Winnebago, Coromal, and Windsor. The closure follows thl's acquisition of Apollo in 2022, which included the Brisbane facility.

This move comes in the wake of Zone RV's recent collapse, highlighting the challenges faced by the Australian caravan manufacturing sector. Factors such as high operational costs, supply chain disruptions, and increased competition have contributed to the industry's difficulties.

For the affected employees, the closure presents immediate challenges, including job loss and financial uncertainty. The broader industry may also feel the impact, as the reduction in local manufacturing capacity could affect supply chains and the availability of Australian-made RVs.

Prospective caravan buyers should be aware of these industry shifts and consider the implications for product availability and after-sales support. Engaging with reputable dealers and staying informed about manufacturer stability can help mitigate potential risks associated with purchasing decisions.

As the industry continues to evolve, stakeholders are calling for strategies to support local manufacturing and preserve jobs. This includes potential government interventions to reduce operational costs and initiatives to enhance the competitiveness of Australian-made RVs in the global market.
